«We live in a century of myriad cultures, of myriad languages that must exist together, even without harmony. Isn’t there any harmony? Of course there is! But contemporary history doesn’t want harmony. It is free. Maybe from this freedom, this incandescent magma, a new era will arrive, a new civilization, a new world». (Ludovico Corrao)

The theme: DISORDER

This is a journey through the big issues that make our history, through the chaotic devices of contemporary creativity. «Disorder» is a keyword of our time, dotted as it is by catastrophes, upheavals and experimentation. It is neither chaos nor anarchy. It is rather a continuous, non-linear movement opposed to static order that produces the kind of original connections necessary for art to bloom, the avant-garde, revolutions. Without disorder there is no history, progress or freedom.
In this continual tension between destruction and reconstruction, breakdowns and innovation, necessity and chance, cities and landscapes live and transform, new ideas are born, social structures change, communication is renewed.

With its innumerable languages, the photography and art of «disorder» is an ambiguous medium par excellence. Since art’s inception it has been a bringer of turmoil, suspended between objectivism and documentation, abstraction and experimentation. And today more then ever, for everything is an image in this contemporary visual chaos. The image is at the heart of history.

Naturally it is Gibellina—city unusual for its birth out of an earthquake’s chaos—that asks itself about «disorder». And it does so in an “open space”, in its public places free from visual contaminations, its streets full of art and beauty. Because art and creativity mustn’t be constrained by the walls of a museum.
